Ozempic®, Wegovy® and Mounjaro® are brand names for Semaglutide (Ozempic® and Wegovy®) and Tripeptide Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®), respectively. Ozempic® is FDA approved to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in addition to diet and exercise as well as to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and known heart disease. While it is not FDA approved for weight loss, it is used off-label for weight loss. Wegovy® is  FDA approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol), for use in addition to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. Mounjaro® is FDA approved for blood sugar control in type 2 diabetics as well as weight loss. 

While the compounded versions also contain Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, the compounded versions are not FDA approved. However, the compounding pharmacies used by Effecty source semaglutide and tirzepatide with the same chemical makeup as the brand name versions.

While GLP-1 medications are generally well-tolerated, some common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. It's important to note that there are also rarer and more significant side effects associated with these medications, such as pancreatitis, gallstones, and kidney issues. Determining the duration of medication use varies significantly from person to person, as obesity is a complex and often chronic condition influenced by genetics and other factors. For many, ongoing treatment with weight loss medication may be necessary, even after achieving weight goals, to help maintain the loss and prevent associated chronic conditions like heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. The Obesity Medicine Association recommends considering long-term medication as a standard part of obesity care. As you near your target weight, your Effecty medical provider can assist in developing a tailored maintenance plan. Should you choose to discontinue the medication, your provider will guide you on how to safely taper off the treatment.

Effecty works with state-licensed compounding pharmacies for treatment fulfillment. Compounding is regulated by both FDA and state boards of pharmacy.

Compounded Semaglutide is $295 per month for weekly dosages ranging from 0.25mg - 1.0mg, and $395 per month for dosages above 1.0mg.

Compounded Tirzepatide is $395 per month for weekly dosages ranging from 2.5mg - 7.5mg, $525 for 10mg and $625 for 12.5 - 15mg.

Ozempic® and Mounjaro® are $1,300 per month for all dosages.
